Prog. notes: “KotoBAbble”(2002) has been realized at the Lejaren Hiller Computer Music Studios at the State University of New York at Buffalo. The piece consists of five parts including two interludes. In a part of the title, ‘Kotoba’ means ‘word(s)’ in Japanese. With this intention, some kinds of voices such as exclamations and onomatopoeias were used mainly for the entire piece. The sources were processed to be usable sound materials by MAX/Msp, on Macintosh G4 computer. Concretely, the MAX/Msp has done several signal processing techniques, for instance, granular synthesis, analysis/re-synthesis, sampling, and so forth. After the signal processing, all the sound materials were transferred to Digidesign ProTools for mixing process to coordinate the entire piece. At the final stage, the other sound effects such as pitch shifting, filtering, time stretching, and panning were added. And, finally, “Kotoba” have been bubbling by themselves.
