Prog. notes: “Phantom San Liu ” was inspired by a famous piece called “San Liu ” or “Three-Six”, one of the eight greatest pieces written for the Chinese traditional string and wind instrument ensemble, or Jiangnan Sizhu.
Borrowing the Sanliu musical form and tonal structure, the composer utilizes simple musical language and expansive soundscapes, combined with the rich timbres of integrating a string quartet with live electronic instruments, to create the illusions and refractions of a multi-dimensional phantom landscape.
