Comment: The Four Symbols are four mythological creatures in the Chinese constellations. They are: Azure Dragon of the East, Vermillion Bird of the South, White Tiger of the West, and Black Tortoise of the North. Each one of them represents a direction and a season of the year, and each has its own individual characteristics and origins. The music of Four Symbols is dedicated to the 4UNLIKE ensemble. Through the characteristics of each instruments, setting on stage, structure of musical sections, and inspirations form visual arts, I developed a system which is lying between interactive and non-interactive. This work is my response and question to the traditional form of musical construction.
