This piece was inspired by a magnificent view in Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona when I went there in 2006 summer. This piece was inspired by a magnificent view in Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona when I went there in 2006 summer. After a continuing desert towards the horizon, large expanses of volcanic rocks eroded into dramatic pinnacles 27,000,000 years ago appeared in front of me. It calls “sky island of the desert”. When I imagined how this view became like this, I felt the romance from the long history. Myself who was seeing the view is a part of the earth and nature like there and have been connected with there with invisible links. We must exist with some kind of balances in this world. When I produced a sound with clapping in the extremely quiet place there, it was reflected from those complicated rocky objects there as if it were back further in the past. This piece was premiered in Japan in 2007 by Takashi Saito, who helped me to create this piece as well as an electronics part.

「見えない環」
この作品は、2006年夏、アリゾナを訪れた際に立ち寄った、チリカワ国定公園の自然の偶然の産物、あるいは、芸術ともいうべき雄大な光景がきっかけとなっている。地平線にまで続く砂漠のなかに現れた山並に入り込むと、「砂漠の海に浮かぶ島」と呼ばれる２７００万年前の火山爆発の際の浸食によってできあがった奇妙な形の尖塔の群像の景観が突如、目の前に現れ、広大さと自然の偉大さに圧倒され、脳裏に焼き付いた。想像を絶するこの光景が、時代を超えてどのようにして現在のような状態に至ったかを考えることは、まるで地球のロマンを感じるようだ。その場でこの地形を見ている自分も、また、この地形／自然の一部であることを考えると、目に見えないリンクで全てはつながり、そのバランスによって、私たちは存在するに違いない。そんなことを想像しながら、静まり返ったこの世のものでないようなその場所で音を発すると、全ての複雑な群像に反響し、複雑な音が、まるで遠い過去の世界から戻ってきたように自分に帰ってきた。この作品を完成するに至り、初演者のサクソフォン奏者・齋藤貴志氏に、エレクトロニクスの制作のための録音、楽器の可能性についての相談など、ご協力していただいた。また、今回の公演のために、ネイト・ペーゲル氏に、この作品のためのヴィデオ作品を依頼した。
