Cantos Nuevos by Fernando García Lorca

The afternoon says, “I’m thirsty of shadow.”
The moon says, “I’m thirsty of stars.”
The crystal fountain asks for lips
and the wind sighs.

I’m thirsty of scents, laughs and
thirsty of new songs
without moons and iris,
and without dead loves.

A morning song that can shiver
quiet backwaters
from the future. And fill hope
with their waves and their mud.

Luminous and quiet song,
full of thought,
virgin to sadness, anguishes,
and virgin to dreams.

Song without lyrical body which fill
the silence with laughs
(a flock of blind doves throw
into the mystery.)

Song which will be the soul of things
and the soul of winds
and which will rest at the end in the joy
of the eternal heart.
