Prog. notes: This piece was composed in summer 2006. I have got an idea of visual and music for this piece
from Korean traditional art and music. Most of the samples I have used in this piece are from
Korean Traditional instrument such as Gayageum (Koto of Japan, Zheng of China), Ggoenggari
(Korean Gong), and Danso (End blown Korean Bamboo Flute). The original photos for the video
are also part of those Korean traditional instruments itself. As I manipulated original sound
samples to compose a piece in creative ways, I have experimented many different ways of
modern video techniques with the instrument photos. The title “The Chase” came from “hwimori
(meaning Chase)” Korean traditional rhythm for folk music. I adapted the “hwimori” rhythm in the
first and the third section of the piece.
